memoirs..

diary, photos, blogs, videos - they r all a good way of storing some moments u want to remember. but going through them almost immediately after u create them gives rise to boredom, and almost stops u from ever recording ur memories again... it is for u to read after a few months, maybe years and enjoy. think how much or how little u hav changed, and feel happy abt the good ol' times...

can't wait to visit bangalore (now known as bengalooru), have planned to shop like anything, and go to important eat-outs like sweet chariot, n more.. i have a whole list of places 2 go, thanx to my bengaloorian friends!! :)

Night-out!!

I had the best night-out ever. Watched 3 hindi movies in a row, with friends. Didn't sleep all night!!!! Man! Once in a while, I think I should do this to charge up my batteries... hmmm.. :)

Sunday fundae

Sunday is totally depressing - because of all the work piled up (which I was optimistically hoping to finish by saturday).. I (uncannily enough) start philosophizing (yes there is a word like this - I just did a word search..) on sunday nights. The later it is in the night, the clearer (seemingly) my thoughts get!! It might be due to the influence of a certain friend of mine!!!

Tanhayee!

Walking alone, doing things alone always has a certain appeal always. To the best of my knowledge, even psychological reports indicate that everybody has to give himself/herself about one hour of lone time, to think by themselves. It helps them go over all the incidents that happened to them, and become wiser! ;)

I love a lone walk somewhere - anywhere. I just took a walk outside in the middle of the night by myself (it was tooooo cold!), but it was refreshing.. No thought is at once so exhilarating and so depressing as the thought that you are alone in this world.. hmmmm :)

Practicality 101

A crash course! I think being more practical is a pessimist's way of life, being grim and sober about life.. Cynical and what-not..

If u don't expect something (anything) good to happen to you, and if it happens - u r happy. If not, it doesn't matter because you were not expecting it in the first place. Thats the advantage of pessimism.

Power of Procrastination

PhD Comics

This guy just rocks! I started reading the comics one day last week, and was so hooked on to it, that I finished all 645 or something strips that he has published till date within the next 36 hours!! I didn't study for my midterms or do my homework or anything!! I think I have it in me to do a PhD! LOL! :-))

Council over the pillow

Its totally overrated. Everytime I have anything akin to a shuteye, I get up thinking whatever I talked or decided before I went to sleep was all rubbish. So I think if I have a bright idea ever again, I'll just go ahead and do it right then. If I sleep over it, more often than not, I chuck it!!

Catcher in the rye

That one still haunts me.. It was a sad story - though it told nothing more a day or two in the life of a college-going guy.. the situation that he was placed in didnt actually make it sad, but his observation about the people around him did.. And the scary part was that I totally related with him, and he was going to end up in a loony bin!

I totally enjoyed his rantings about New York. Its a lovely place - i know not the safest place, but u get a more independent attitude towards life.. man! i loved that city..

Travel

I'm not a big travel buff, but I just thought how nice it would be to travel in an old-fashioned train with windows that you can open to let in the air! Read a book, or just sit by the window watching the nature around you... Listen to some nice music - there are some songs that go well with the picture...hmmm

yet here i am sitting at home, not feeling sleepy (that was because of the strong tea i had. i though i'd give my roomie some company while she drank her tea and studied for her midterm.. mine just got over today!), thinking of when i can go home, and other nice things..

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

I love Douglas Adams's writing. His stories aren't the most logical. For the first few pages of his first book, I tended to comapare it with J K Rowling's, since both belonged to the same genre - fantasy - but gave it up as a bad job. There is nothing that makes sense except for the snide comments about England or the people in general.

This is one line I liked a lot. Pay attention at the end..

<..he describes a tense situation, the-time-has-stopped-kind of a situation followed by these lines..>

for example..

....he stared at the humanoids who could be described as cavemen, except for the slight fact that they lived in huts.

They looked very savage to Arthur and the guttural sounds that they emitted made no sense to him. But their actions conveyed that they clearly didn't want company. One of the cavemen moved forward.

Arthur's throat became dry.

Nothing happened.

Nothing continued to happen for the next two minutes.. (!!!)

The last two lines has been there in the first two books of his series. I am reading the third book right now. Will look out for those lines..

Abishek Bachchan

Abhishek Bachchan is too good! I was laughing all the time when I watched him in both of the 'Koffee with Karan' episodes. He rocks! He is way better than his father. He's awesome! His father should retire. There should be an age bar for movies! You just get sick and tired of his stereotypical acting sometimes. I feel that he has had his moments of glory and should step aside and not hog the scene. Sentiments similar to those you get when you think about Sean Connery!

HBP

Spoiler Warning!!

I didn't think it was the best of J K Rowling's books. It was a slight bit of disappointment for me. The main reason was because Dumbledore died. I had an intuition that it was going to happen. The other reason is that it had nothing drastically new to tell.

The plus points are of course - Harry and Ginny, Ron and Hermione, more knowledge about the past life of Voldemort and about Horcruxes. But on the whole it was a darker book, and lacked a lot of funny stuff I usually like. I agree that life has gotten more complicated for Harry, but that doesnt mean there is no space for some good times. About Harry and Ginny, I had already mentioned my views in this blog before I read the book.

Now I would like to predict another thing that will happen in book 7. Snape will not turn out bad. He has never stopped being true to Dumbledore. He had to kill Dumbledore, because he had made the Unbreakable Vow, and he had made the Unbreakable Vow because he had to prove to Voldemort and his followers that he was indeed a true confidant of the Death Eaters. He had Narcissa already convinced, and helped clear some doubts about him in the mind of Bellatrix also. You may ask, did he really need to kill Dumbledore to prove that? And the answer is.. well! somebody would have killed Dumbledore one way or the other. Even if Draco was scared, Fenrir or one of the others would have done the job. By doing it himself, Snape protected himself from the Unbreakable Vow and reinstated his reputation in the eyes of Voldemort. I think he is going to help Harry a lot in the next book. And this Horcrux thing sounds a lot interesting.

1 2 ka 4

How did I miss this movie? I must have been too young then to notice it.. Awesome A R Rahman music. And who else to better carry the charm of it than Shahrukh? The story is fully timepass. But I like timepass movies. I read somewhere that it is similar to 'Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke' which is also one of my favorite movies. I would not agree with the person who made this comment. Though '1 2 ka 4' is in the same genre as the former, it is different.

I love the songs - 'Dil Ki Baazi Lagaa', 'Sona Nahi Na Sahi' and 'Khamoshiyan Gungunaane Lagi'. The songs sound familiar. I must have watched them on DD in 'Super Hit Muqabla' or something. Those were the days..

Paheli

Saw the movie. Expected it to be more of a moral story. Looking at it as a reproduction of a folktale, seems really good. Nice timepass..

Walk alone..

The song from Bose - Ekla Cholo - with Sonu Nigam's voice is awesome. I found the meaning from the net. Its too good!

Judi tor daak shune keu naa ashay
tobe ekla cholo re
Ekla cholo ekla cholo ekla cholo re.

Judi keu katha na kore ore ore o abhaga
Judi shobai thake mukh firae shobai kore bhay
Tobe paran khule
O tui mukh fute tor moner kotha ekla bolo re

Judi shobai fire jay ore ore o abhaga
Judi gahan pathe jabar kale keu feere na chay
Tobe pather kanta
O tui rokto makha choron tole ekla dolo re

Judi alo na dhare ore ore o abhaga
Judi jharr badale ondhor rate duar deay ghare
Tobe bajranale
Apoon buker panjar jaliey nieye ekla jolo re.

Meaning:

If they answer not to thy call walk alone,

If they are afraid and cower mutely facing the wall,O thou of evil luck, open thy mind and speak out alone.

If they turn away, and desert you when crossing the wilderness,O thou of evil luck, trample the thorns under thy tread, and along the blood-lined track travel alone.

If they do not hold up the light when the night is troubled with storm,O thou of evil luck, with the thunder flame of pain ignite thy own heart and let it burn alone.

Bollywood

I am a big fan of Shah Rukh Khan's and I am eagerly waiting for his next film, having seen almost all of his latest films. The next one seems to be 'Paheli' produced by himself, and directed by Amol Palekar. I haven't seen any of Amol Palekar's previous movies, so I have no idea how this is going to be.

The website for the film is: http://www.pahelithefilm.com/

Shah Rukh looks real funny in the Rajasthani costume!!

Wodehouse Fever

The first I read of Wodehouse was 'The Innimitable Jeeves'. I don't like extremely goofy characters, and I did not exactly like Bertie.

Then I read the Blandings Castle series and immediately got addicted to Wodehouse stories. The best book of his that I have ever read is 'Something Fresh'. It was awesome. I wrote a review of that book for an Indian newsletter here, called 'The Drexel Desi'. Will paste my review here as soon as that is published.

There are a lot of P G Wodehouse ebooks at this site:
http://www.gutenberg.org/browse/authors/w - go all the way down to 'Wodehouse, P. G. (Pelham Grenville) (1881-1975)'

For a person unintroduced to his works yet, I would advice starting with 'Something Fresh' (U.S title - Something New').

Pottermania

I am so waiting for the 6th book to be released. I am anxious to know what is going to happen to Harry in his 6th year at Hogwarts.

Spoiler Warning: (for people who havent read any of the first 5 books)

I cried so much when I read how Sirius died in the 5th book. I mean he was the only one left for Harry, and now he's gone too. I have read the 5th book like 7 times, and have cried everytime when I get to that part.

I just hope something happens for Harry. I have a shrewd idea that Harry and Ginny are going to get together soon. I have a strong feeling, and have had it the moment I started reading the 5th book, even though it was proved false later in the book. It would be better if Harry and Ginny started seeing each other without the knowledge of Ron, his family, or even Hermione.

And I just wish Ron and Hermione get together too. I mean how long are they going to take to figure out whats going on between them?!!

Two characters that affected me were - Luna and Snape. My opinion of Snape has totally changed after I read the 5th book, and everybody who read it must be knowing why.. I hated Snape before, and now I can actually imagine how he must have felt all this while..

The first

The name for this blog just came to me when I was thinking of 'The Mask'. BTW I feel that Jim Carrey did a really great job of playing 'The Mask'. He rocks! I also liked 'Dumb and Dumber' - one of his funniest movies. I think he did a really good job in 'Ace Ventura - When Nature Calls'! He was awesome!

I enjoy singing, and I am a part of an acapella group called 'The Drexel Shor'. For more info, go to www.drexelshor.com. Our most recent show was on May 21st. We opened the concert for 'The Treblemakers'. I really enjoy singing, and I think I should take it more seriously.

We had fun yesterday. We were wearing desi clothes, and we went on stage in flashy silk salwars and kurtas, to reflect the colorful tradition of India. For the first time since I came to Drexel University, I felt a sense of accomplishment.
