Swades

the movie did not become a huge hit.. it had a good plot, and screen play was not too bad.. in many ways it was very realistic.. and it has been inspiring to many... it may not have a very strong story, but it continues to be one of the trendsetting movies.

the songs are pretty good, and very apt. the picturizations of the songs are very realistic unlike many hindi movies. 'yunhi chala chal' is a very superb song. it just makes you want to keep on going, no matter what happens around you or to you...

while playing badminton, i have always observed that you only lose when you think the rally is over and give up. believe me when I say, that its all psychological. when you make up your mind and decide that you can hit a return shot no matter what the opponent's shot is (let it be a smash shot or a drop shot), nobody can stop you from a hitting a return back.. this is true not only in games but in real life...

thats why i chose this as a title for my blog (until i get more creative may b.. :))...

Yunhi chala chal rahi...
coz its not over until its over...

Starry-eyed...

I don't believe in reading my fortune.. I feel it sometimes can cause adverse effects.. but right now, I read some 3 different versions of my fortune-for-the-day.. so I figure theres no way that all the 3 predictions can happen at the same time.. sometime they r so contradictory that I have a good laugh over it..

sometimes the fortunes written in a fortune cookie don't even tell ur fortune.. it gives general advice.. or says general things about who u r..
n I found this funny quote somewhere..

Found in a fortune cookie: "You are a poor, pathetic, gullible fool who seeks advice from bakery products."

well my fortune for today says: "your long-term goals will be achieved today"....
I guess this means that I would finally be doing my laundry today.. lol!!

Life...

I got this quote from a really close person.. its just awesome..

"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Chardonnay in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO, What a Ride".

Man! Fundooo.. If ever there was a philosophy to living life, this is it!!

u hav 2 sit quiet - when u want to scream out loud
u hav 2 hide ur emotions - when u want to tell all
u hav 2 grin n bear it - when life screws u.. lol! :)

Be water, my friend!

I was finding quotes to put in my sidebar, when I remembered my most favorite one. It was said by Bruce Lee. I like him not because he is a martial arts specialist or because I like his movies, or any thing of that sort. I respect him for he was a sort of philosopher (for the lack of a better word). He read many books and his ideas and philosophies were really awesome..

He developed the 'Jeet Kune Do' which means the "way of the intercepting fist". Even in that you can see that his ideas have been infused. His theories are really amazing.. For example, my favorite quote is:

"Don't get set into one form, adapt it and build your own, and let it grow, be like water. Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless — like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water my friend. Adapt!"

I came to know about him through a documentary on discovery channel a few years back. It was an awesome compilation of his life, his ideas and his works.. truly amazing man!

Snowed in!

Whoa! I just had the experience of my life! I went to the lab with my friend, and we were doing our work, when the snow got really thick. The weather reports were saying that it would get better, but it didn't. We were just snowed in!

Then after some time a trip back home had to be risked. Otherwise we would just remain without nutrition or sunlight, the former being the most important! ;) But it was cool coming back! (and I MEAN COOL!)!! :) We walked through like more than a feet-thick snow, n were we glad when we reached home! I'll never forget this day, and the snow ever!

T.G.I.F! (Thank God! Its Friday!)

Got up late today and found I was late to the class for which I am T.Aing.. There was some jhol with the alarm. It was unbelievable! One minute I was like: "Hahn! What time is it again?!", and then the next minute I was brushing my teeth as fast as I could, and getting my things together! It was a 'sudden change in momentum' as one of my Physics TA friends said.. I ran to the class. I was late by 10 mins.. hotha hain, I know..

A friend of mine keeps talking about anxiety level and how it keeps you going. For example while studying for exams, if your anxiety level is not high enough you won't be tense and won't study for it. This is often the case with me. But if its too high, it may make u so nervous that u get jittery while writing. So its all a trick of maintaining your anxiety at the right level.

I feel that even for getting up early in the morning, you need to maintain a steady anxiety level in your subconscious level. You need to remind yourself that you have to get up early the next day. Otherwise its most likely that you won't. If you maintain at a high enough level, you may not even need an alarm! Think about that!!... hmmmm..

Music....

Before I posted this, I read up some articles on the net about the positive and negative effects that music could possibly have on humans.. It was really interesting, and I still have a doubt as to whether all those effects are really possible..

For me, music is life. By that I don't mean that I have to only sing it always, but I have to also listen to music a lot. I agree completely with somebody's saying that "The only problem with life is the lack of background music!'". I would love to listen to music everytime and everywhere - while I'm playing, eating, studying, lying down 24x7, though its not possible.

The first I hear a song and enjoy it, the situation and my surroundings are completely stored in my memory, cross-indexed to the song. So that whenever I listen to the song, I remember the surroundings I was in when I heard it first. Also whenever I'm in that place or surrounding again, I remember the song..

Like this, I can remember the song I heard when I went with my family on a road trip to Bangalore, the song I listened I listened when I was in first year (when life was all screwed up!), the song I listened to recently in lab.. everything.. I even remember the feelings I had when I listened to it!

Its just awesome what music can do.. really!

About raagas.. (eee E5!)

I realized too late that I had a penchant for Carnatic music.. by that time I had stopped learning music because we moved.. I am planning to learn at the next available chance..

I realized that the nattai ragam is just awesome.. After I had heard the song - 'Ayyangaar Veetu Azhagey' from Anniyan, Hariharan's mellifluous voice just did the trick.. When I heard it first, it sounded boring, then it appealed to me.. the 'Jagadananda Karaka' keerthana that started the song was also unbelievable. I realize that 'Maha Ganapathim' is also nattai..

I love identifying raagas. Hope I become a virtuoso (I know thats too ambitious!) in classical carnatic music.. hmm...

A Pseudo-deterministic song!

I was just listening to this song 'Khoya Khoya Thaa' from Shabd. It seems deterministic in some way, but has so many random poetic verses, and conversational pieces. So its actually a pseudo-random song.

But a glass half-empty is also half-full. So from the optimist's point of view, it is a pseudo-deterministic song! Yay!

Ok now have to start studying for my quiz today. These kinds of awesome thoughts only come when I have a quiz or exam to study for! :b

An Unforgettable Birthday!

Today was the best birthday ever. I'll never forget this my whole life, I'm sure. Because I am so crazy for Badminton, my friends arranged so that they brought the cake right to the middle of the baddie court of our school, and i got caked right there. The cake said: Priya! "Bad"dy Gal! It was the awesomest! Chanceless!
